Project Brief
This project was to create a title opening that conveys the tone and mood of the story. The film I chose for this project was an action comedy called Bullet Train. The goal of this project was to create a short but engaging opening that follows the tone of the story.
Process
I started the project by sketching out some ideas. I also researched the actors, director, writer, and other important information to include in the opening. It was difficult figuring out how to design this opening. I needed to create something engaging but time-efficient. I didn't want to use footage from the movie because I felt like I would rely on it to keep the viewers' attention. In the end, I decided to just animate type with a neon glow effect. I took some inspiration from another film called Saturday Night Fever. The opening for that film had an almost neon type effect, and I felt that I could use a similar effect for the movie I was doing.  It fit perfectly because the movie starts in Tokyo and has other neon effects throughout the film. The music I chose to animate the type to was the Japanese version of "Stayin' Alive." The music was used in the original opening and helps convey the comedy aspect of the film. For the typeface, I chose a sans-serif font called Arial. I chose this font because it was simple and clean, and it didn't look strange when I turned the type into just strokes with no fill. The final result was a retro neon opening. One thing I would have done differently for this project is spend more time on the sketching phase. I was still indecisive throughout the whole process and wasn't fully committing to an idea, which made the project take longer than it should have.
